Eric B & Rakim/Prince
I Know You Got Soul/UptownWarp kick off their new Arcola sub-label with this cheeky two track white label, allegedly knocked together by Brothomstates, it’s quite a radical departure for them. Setting its sights on the heart of the dance floor, one side sees Eric B & Rakim's Follow the Leader layered over a pulsing, bass heavy tech-house track that wouldn’t be out of place of a label such as Kompakt. With its percussive thumping bassline and the classic vocals, it’s a devastating slice of dance floor pressure.
The flip is even more of a departure, built from elements of Minneapolis’ finest Prince, it’s a perfect slice of disco house and could easily fit in on labels like Crydamore or Roulé. No mistake this is a proper big room house track that could be rinsed by everyone from electro do’s to openminded house jocks.
A surprising and welcome direction from Warp, it promises good things for the future and shows that the old dog can still learn a few new tricks.
