La Mouche
Super StrasseIt's not much of a secret that this is one of my very favourite labels, so I'll keep the sycophancy and over-the-top praise down to a minimum and just say that the Super Strasse EP is just as good as I expected. Label boss Ollie Jacob, under his La Mouche guise, builds four jazzed-out, hip hop-influenced tracks that flit between the slightly unsettling and the utterly gorgeous.
Opening with the evocative strains of Don't Fuck With The Program and moving on to the folksy, acoustic guitar-enhanced beats of Paved With Stone before flipping over to the psychedelic chords of Roads and the title track's rhythmic, lo-fi instrumental wanderings, the Super Strasse EP does all the wistful, introspective and cinematic things Memphis Industries is great at, and more. Essential.
