Believe me, there is enough Joe Driscoll here to satisfy even the most insane, deluded, Goa-worshipping, trustafarian Joe Driscoll fan. Joe makes fusion pop/reggae/hip hop (and he says folk) using live beatbox looping and a guitar. You get to see the raw, Spinal Tap horrors of promoting a modern performer here, thanks to the DVD that accompanies the shockingly insipid terrors of the CD. You get to see Joe explaining how he makes his looped music using a Line 6 footpedal (and you have to wonder whether Joe has something going on with Line 6, from the way he says the name very slowly and clearly, with a twinkle in his eye…), and it’s all pretty dull. Joe lays down weak beats and then ‘edits’ them (stopping and starting them). After a while he starts really getting into it and we are left feeling awkward, left in this harmless hippy’s house as he whiles away three hours making beatbox loops. The live footage continues the dying-on-its-feet theme, with three shows all as awkward as each other. The first is a proper cringer, with the lack of atmosphere in the room bellowing out of the screen and Joe grimacing his way through a woefully dull pop-reggae jam.

It's little surprise to find out that the CD is also atrocious. Deadhead lyrics are sung in that emptily jaunty way only a white boy reggae head can achieve. The melodies are so thin they can creep out of the tiniest hole in your speakers and seep into the walls, infecting them with mould. A sort of Joe Jam.
