Bass for yr belly, beats for yr feets!

Marking the launch of !Kaboogie label release #2, Dublin's bastion of bass music gathers together an exclusive showcase for Spannered

When Dublin's !Kaboogie collective sprung up back in 2006, underground club offerings in the city rarely strayed beyond techno/electro parties and the odd drum'n'bass night. This ever-expanding crew of DJs, producers and designers has since blazed a path through experimental pastures of noughties' bass music, working tirelessly to bring new acts to the capital.

Early events saw Spannered associates Aaron Spectre, Kid Kameleon, Ripley and DJ C in town; three years on and !Kaboogie's roll of past guests includes such luminaries as Kode9, The Bug, Drop the Lime, 16bit, King Cannibal, Rustie, Bong-Ra, Ghislain Poirier, Starkey, Durrty Goodz, Gabriel Heatwave, Ebola... the list goes on.

It's always been the !Kaboogie's way to foster local talent too. Resident artists A-Force, Bluefood, Drokkr, Redmonk, Richie !K and Sixfoot Apprentice have toured the collective's sound around Belfast, Cork and Galway, and further from home in Brighton, Berlin and Turin, while the crew's recording artists — Ed Devane, Prince Kong and Lakker, and rising talents such as Scurvy Lass, Manus Goan and The Banker — are currently getting props for some wonderfully idiosyncratic productions.

The culmination of three years hard graft is !Kaboogie Records. The first release, Squidge EP (featuring Prince Kong, Lakker, 16 Hertz and Thatboytim) dropped back in August, and the second, an EP by Prince Kong, is out later this month. Ed Devane, Mad EP, Sarsparilla and The Banker are all lined up for future releases.

To coincide with release #2, those kind !Kaboogie folk have assembled a showcase of goodies for download: an exclusive track from Dublin producer Simon Lynch (aka 16 Hertz), a live set of dubby, skanky goodness from the ForceFed chaps, and a suitably deranged mix of new and forthcoming material from Ed Devane, mixed by Redmonk.

!Kaboogie currently holds a residency in the Dublin's Twisted Pepper club, as well as a free fortnightly night in the city's Thomas House. Redmonk and Richie !Kaboogie also command a weekly slot on Dublin’s Radio na Life, Sunday mornings from 3am-4.30am. Drop by the freshly redesigned kaboogie.net for more music as well as info on upcoming parties and releases.

Well Sick by Prince Kong is out now.
