The Power Is On
General summer hyperactivity that would make a great theme tune to a cartoon aimed at crackheads about a bunch of cutesy superheroes...

OK, this stuff is bizarre. Not avant-garde or anything, it wears its pop hooks too readily on its sleeve for that; it just seems that The Go! Team got the Ikea flat-packed pop music set (which I think is called pööpp) but didn't bother to read the instructions. Manic, heliumed up chanting, that in all fairness should be unbearably annoying, makes up the 'hooks' here. But it's the ecstatic wave of distorted rock beats, fuzzbox guitars and various 'triumphant moment' orchestral blasts that make this an exhilarating ride. Right in time for general summer hyperactivity. This would make a great theme tune to a cartoon aimed at crackheads about a bunch of cutesy superheroes – something like the Powerpuff Girls. I don't know why I think this, but I can imagine the Japanese fucking loving this, if that gives you any idea what this sounds like. It seems that some fantastic new genre has been created. Unfortunately the other two tunes don't replicate this Cartoon Network grunge (?), going instead for autistic child at school piano recital on Hold Yr Terror Close, and psychotic episode in G for piano on The Ice Storm. Nevertheless check this out, just make sure there aren't any sharp objects nearby when you listen to it.
