Recloose
Cardiology (Isolee Remix)
By Miles Hawthorn

I must be unusual in that I haven’t heard the original Recloose version of this track, although this has piqued my interest to check it out. Isolee first came to prominence with their classic Beau Mot Plage cut on this very label and they return to it for the first time in a while to stamp their own mark on the lead cut from Matt Chicoine’s Planet E album.

The solitary track starts off as a swing-jerk kind of soulful house track with a real druggy feel that’s accentuated by the occasional burst of a muted trumpet and Malik Alston’s sporadic ‘keep on moving’ vocals. The track has a lush, stoned kind of momentum to it but it really gets going when quite unexpectedly about a third of the way in there’s a swift burst of some intense acid that fits the track perfectly. It then slips back into the lazy lilt of before until the acid that keeps bubbling beneath the surface finally breaks out and there’s a proper 303 wig out at the end.

This is only pressed on one side of the vinyl which generally I can’t stand, although I can make an exception when a track is this good. It seems there’s recently been a renaissance of sorts for the old silver box and this is one of the finest examples of late so make sure you don’t miss it.
