Jerome Pacman
OneA brilliant name for this French label which plays host to an artist I haven’t heard anything from in a long time. He seems to have somewhat changed tack since I last heard him too.
What you’ve got here are two tracks, I love you and Bubbles, coupled with a remix of each by Phil Weeks and DJ Terry. For me the standouts are the originals which are infectious and slightly wonky housed-up rhythms, with repetitive and just about inaudible vocal motifs that have a habit of busting into the odd different vocal snippet or noisy breakdown romp before dropping back into the groove. The tracks are playful and bouncy but not simple or derivative – imagine Si Begg or Subhead crossed with Daft Punk. I think that this is at the core of the originals and is slightly lost in the remixes.
One of those records that you could drop late in the morning that will get people off the floor or walls and moving again. It's not necessarily fast or hectic, but having that special X factor that means it simply isn’t sufficient just to nod your head.
